Listed buildings in Chislehurst

Chislehurst has a large number of listed buildings. In 2006, there were 106 on the statutory list, and 301 on the local list. Seven buildings and one monument have been added to the local list in February 2008 following a review by Bromley Council. These are:

The statutory list is of those buildings that have been placed on the list compiled by English Heritage, which is maintained by The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. They are categorised under three headings, Grade I, Grade II*, or Grade II. Strict rules are applied to any proposals to modify such houses.

The local list is of those buildings regarded by the planning department of the London Borough of Bromley as being of special architectural or historical importance. The planning department will pay particular attention to any proposals to develop or modify these buildings. Most of these are not on the statutory list.

Bromley planning department is currently reviewing the lists, and this may result in additional buildings being placed on one or other of the lists. The outcome of this review is expected in 2008.
