The Alun and Joy Jones Awards 2008

At the Awards ceremony on 5th June, prizes of more than £1,600 were given by the Chislehurst Society to Schools and individuals.

From a record entry, in terms both of numbers and quality, 38 prize certificates and cash prizes were handed over to succesful entrants, together with 64 certificates of commendation. More than 450 excited students parents and teachers attended the ceremony at Babington House School. "This is one of the most important events which the Society runs" said Tony Allen, the new Chairman of the Chislehurst Society, "and certainly the most enjoyable." Donna Bompas, who organised the event, and led the panel of eight judges, told the audience that the Awards provided a wonderful opportunity for students to take a step back to observe and study their local environment, and as a result to gain a better understanding of the community around them.Winning entry

Babington House School was awarded THE ALUN JONES MEMORIAL TROPHY for the school submitting the most outstanding entries.

Olivia, Ching Hang Wah, a student ot Farringtons School was awarded THE JOY JONES AWARD for the most outstanding individual entries for two pieces of work: “Spaces” a painting of Ferens Hall & a terracotta sculpture of Chislehurst Perspectives (pictured right).
