Road Stewards' meeting 31 October 2009
Our Autumn meeting for Road Stewards was held in the theatre room at Chislehurst Library on Saturday 31 October. Fifty three Road Stewards attended the meeting.
The main presentation was by Roberto Farina, a manager from Bromley Council, who explained the latest developments in recycling policy and practice in the Bromley area.
Among other matters, Roberto explained the development of recycling policy over the last twenty years, up to and including current trials for food composting. Bromley is one of the best performing Boroughs in the country regarding levels of recycling, costs per head, and quality of recycled product (especially the clean nature of paper waste, which enable Bromley to fetch the highest price per tonne). Roberto answered a number of questions from the audience regarding current practice. Food waste is the next target for recycling; current trials for food composting in the area will be analysed in the coming months, and it is expected that they will be become borough-wide in a year's time.
After Roberto's talk, Barbara Arora, a road steward from Walden Road, announced the formation of a new Friends Group for the Chislehurst and Walden Recreation Ground. For more details click here.
