Street Pride

Civic societies across the country are taking action to create better streets for people and in 2010 they are running the street pride campaign to help rid our streets of unnecessary clutter and create streets we can be proud of.

The campaign responds to the enthusiasm expressed by civic societies during the recent debate undertaken by the Civic Society Initiative for action to improve our streets.  It builds on campaigns already undertaken across the country in places such as Stamford, Oxford, Salisbury, Alnwick, Bath, and Wakefield.

The campaign encourages civic societies to involve their members in identifying, and urging action against, unnecessary street clutter. It will focus on poor pavements and unnecessary signs, posts, bollards and guardrails.

Are you frustrated or irritated by the number of road signs you see as you walk or drive around Chislehurst? Is it necessary for several consecutive posts within metres of each other to carry the same message? Could several be amalgamated on the same post? Are some badly sited? Are some out of date?

The Chislehurst Society plans to take part in this campaign to reduce superfluous signs and tidy up the clutter on our streets. We want to hear your views.

Tell us what you think and where the offending signs are sited. We will follow up any suggestions and approach Bromley Council on the subject.
