Result of 20mph Speed Limit Questionnaire
In the last edition of the Chislehurst Report members were asked to complete a questionnaire seeking their views on whether the introduction of a 20mph speed limit on “non-priority” roads in the Borough would be a good idea.
The results were as follows:
| Number of households canvassed: | 2251 |
|
| Number of responses: | 358 |
|
| Responses as percentage of total: | 16% |
|
| Number in favour of 20mph limit: | 238 |
66% |
| Number against 20mph limit: | 120 |
34% |
Other points of interest:
- All age groups were in favour of the proposal with approval ratings ranging between 64% and 80%.
- The main message coming from the "no" vote is that resources should be spent on enforcing the 30mph limit before time and money is spent on a 20mph limit.
- 6 out of 23 residents’ associations have responded so far (of which The Chislehurst Society is the largest) and the results are 67% in favour and 33% against.
The deadline for the receipt of any further surveys is the end of April. A report will then be prepared for the Portfolio Holder, Councillor Smith, and Council Officers so that they are as fully informed as possible of residents’ views on the subject. It is then up to them whether they consider the findings merit any progression.
We will keep members informed of any developments and take this opportunity to thank you for taking part.
